Summer vacation is the most anticipated time of the year. This is the time for family travels and beach destinations are always preferred. Nothing says family bonding more than building sand castles together, catching the waves or simply watching the sunset. India is blessed to have a 7500 km coastline and its difficult to choose beaches that are ideal for families. Radhanagar Beach, Andaman


Andaman

Radhanagar Beach is rated as one of the best beaches in Asia in 2004, by Time magazine; and it truly lives up to its expectations. It’s truly a heaven on earth with its desolate shores lined with a fringe of green woods, the soft unfolding of the waves, and the vastness of the azure waters meeting the blue silk of the sky. Not very populated, this beach is perfect for the kids to run around in unending sandy playgrounds.

Varca Beach, Goa


Goa

Goa is everyone’s favourite beach destination. Known for its active party scene, most of the beaches may not be ideal for families. But Varca beach in South Goa is ideal for family vacation. This beach is hawker free and is arguably the cleanest beach in Goa. You can also indulge in water sports here, like parasailing, banana rides and speed boats. This place is our personal favorite and especially my kid’s.

Agatti Beach, Lakshwadeep


This is another not very visited place but trust me you will not regret going here. If clear blue waters and pristine white sand is what you are searching this is the place to be. The coconut grove lining the beach adds to its beauty. There are many water sports options available here. The kids will be delighted looking at the corals and sea turtles spotted here.

Marari Beach, Alappuzha, Kerala


Kerala has a number of beautiful beaches. Kovalam is undeniably the popular one but Marari beach is more ideal for family vacation. Known as the Venice of the East his beach is serene and stunning known for its backwaters and Kettuvallum cruises. The 140 year old pier that extends straight to the sea is an added attraction.

Paradise Beach, Pondicherry


This place is a favorite of family vacationers even though it is not on the main land. The fact that you need to take a boat to reach here adds to its charm. Once you reach there the golden sand and clear waters take you by surprise. Do not forget to pack your frisbee and volleyball. The sea is so calm that its safe for the water babies to splash around.

Ganapatipule, Maharashtra


Maharashtra has a coastline of around 760 kms. It boasts of many beautiful beaches and Ganapatipule is one of them. Ganapatipule is a favorite destination for families living in Pune and Mumbai. The beach is clean and less populated. This place is so peaceful and serene that one can easily spend hours looking out at the horizon. There is also a very famous Ganapati temple here which is a must visit.

Murudeshwar, Karnataka


The first thing you see in Murudeshwar is the iconic statue of Lord Shiva. The intricately carved Shiva temple is an important one for Shiva devotees. The beach here gives an amazing view of the Arabian Sea. The rich fauna lines the white sand giving it an ethereal feel. Apart from the water sports, the sunrise and sunset views here are worth experiencing.

Mahabalipuram Beach, Tamil Nadu


Mahabalipuram is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its 7th century stone monuments and caves. Flanked by rolling hills this is a popular tourist destination. The scenic backdrop of shore temples, rock-cut sculptures against the glittering Bay of Bengal waters is music to the eyes. This beach is also famous for surfing. There is also a crocodile park here that houses 5000 crocodiles.

Chandipur Beach, Odisha


This beautiful beach in Odisha, is flanked by casuarina trees and picturesque sand dunes. It’s also called Hide and Seek beach because the water recedes almost 5 kms during low tide. Although there are no water sports here, the pristine and scenic beach is perfect to build sand castles, play a game of beach volleyball or simply laze around.

Rushikonda Beach, Andhra Pradesh


Rushikonda Beach in Vishakhapatnam is aptly known as the jewel of the east. The Rushikonda hill located in the vicinity provides a beautiful backdrop to this beach. The golden sand and green waters is perfect for a family picnic. There are a range of water sports and activities here to choose from. This is one of the few beaches that have supervised swimming so its safe for the water babies too.
